Friday - Brazil side & Middle Eastern Lunch - Fly to Sampa & Ultra Lounge

This was our day for the Brazilian side of the falls before flying to São Paulo. Since the airport was near the entrance to the falls, we bussed to the airport, checked our bags several hours early for our flight that night, and then bussed to the falls. Another gay couple did the exact same thing, and we'd seen them in our hotel, as well. So we started chatting. They were visiting from Amsterdam, and we explored the falls together. Here I am with them and the fantastic panorama of the falls:

Here is one of the many iguanas we saw in that area:

As you can see above and below, the mist from the falls was amazing, and difficult to photograph. But oh, what a fun and exhilarating way to get wet on a hot day!

While exploring the falls, we realized that Geoff had left his baseball cap (bought at the turtle reserve in Praia Do Forte) at a clothing store that we'd stopped at on our way to the airport. So we took the bus back into town, retrieved the cap (and bought a shirt), then had lunch at a simple Middle-Eastern restaurant. We'd read ahead of the trip that there's a large Middle-Eastern Muslim population in the Iguaçu area, so I wanted to try the food and get a "taste" of the culture. I always enjoy having Middle-Eastern food in different countries, because the names are always different, but the food is the same, with slight variations. We had a good, filling meal, then dashed off to the airport for our flight to "Sampa".

Our flight into São Paulo was late, so we got to our hotel, dropped off our stuff, cleaned up, and went out for a very late bite to eat. Nirmapaul and David had been there before we saw them in Rio, so we took their excellent advice on where to stay and where to go to get fliers advertising dance clubs. We decided to go to Ultralounge that night, and it was a good choice - one of the coolest clubs we've ever seen. They had excellent music with familiar pop elements but a lot of creativity and good grooves. The caipirinhas with different fruits (instead of just traditional lime) were excellent (my favorite became kiwi). The crowd was friendly and lively, and the space was interesting. So we had fun and went to bed around 4.
