Wednesday - Fly to Iguassu & Bird Park & Churrascurria

Geoff- We rose early to get our flight to Iguassu (which is spelled Iguaçu in Portuguese, pronounced the same as the Spanish Iguassu). The airport is extremely close to the park entrance to the falls. The falls come from an extremely large river which winds its way through the mountains of Paraguay and Argentina before crashing down off a cliff into Brazil. This one river creates 235 waterfalls across a 3 kilometer stretch. It is clearly one of the most beautiful places on earth. Here is a view from the plane.

After checking into our hotel and dropping our bags we bus to the bird park just outside of the entrance to the Brazilian park. In addition to the magnificent collection of birds the park also has cages of monkeys and an area of beautiful large multi-colored and hued butterflies. Although we didn't photograph them outside of the bird park there were throngs of butterflies swarming all of over the hiking trails around the falls. Clouds of color dancing above pathways. The following pictures speak for themselves.

After a few hours we bussed back to our hotel and went in search of a vegetarian restaurant noted in our guidebook but which was not there. We ended up at a traditional Churascurria around the corner from our hotel. Among the typical options we were also offered chicken hearts (a whole skewer full) and bull testicles. We politely declined both and turned in early.
